Overview

This "System Five is already running on this computer" login screen is caused when you have closed an RDP session on one machine without logging out of System Five, and have logged in on another. You can safely login and it will terminate your other session - though do so with caution as if you are midway through a transaction it may leave you with open/unbalanced transactions.

If you are unable to login from this screen:

In versions after 7.0.0.1408 and prior to 7.0.0.1526, behavior may be seen where logging in is not possible. This happens when System Five is unable to connect and load data from its database, and this message appears before displaying the underlying error such as:

  1. The Actian Zen database engine has been restarted due to a server reboot
  2. Your network may have been disconnected.
  3. Missing files such as MASTER.BTR

Solutions

  1. You will need to end task System Five using the task manager.  If you are unable to do this.
    • Restart your workstation OR
    • If you are using System Five on Cloud go ahead and sign out
  2. Double-click System Five and sign in, if successful no further remediation is required.
  3. You can also choose to upgrade to version 7.0.0.1527 or later
    • RELEASE NOTES after 7.0.0.1527:   The "System Five is already running on this computer" is now hidden earlier in case another error prevents the message from being hidden and confusing. Techs were confused about the message and did not work on why the username and terminal were also blank. Login should now be blank, showing that no companies/directories were found.
