Overview

If you are receiving the following pop-up message when downloading the screen connect app ConnectWiseControl.Client.exe.  "Microsoft recommends installing this app from the Microsoft Store to help protect your PC.".  The Microsoft Store is configured as the default on this workstation which can be changed.

⚠️ There may be an additional issue where Chrome is saving the file with a JNLP extension which is Java Network Launch Protocol. Connect to help.wws5.com using Microsoft Edge browser.


To disable the Microsoft Store

To disable the request "Microsoft recommends installing this app from the Microsoft store to help protect your PC," follow these steps.
  1. Click Start, then click the cog "Settings" wheel.
  2. Click the "Apps" icon located near the middle-left of the screen.
  3. Near the very top find the text "Choose where to get apps". "Installing apps only from Windows Store helps protect your device." The default option is "The Microsoft Store only (recommended)". Change it to "Anywhere".
  4. Open a browser and navigate back to https://windwardsoftware.screenconnect.com/ and enter the code from the Windward support person.

You should now be able to download and run ConnectWiseControl.Client.exe and connect a Windward support person to your PC.
