Is the printer turned on?

  • Check the power cable connections
  • Check power indicators on the printer
  • Check the thermal transfer ribbon spool in a label printer
  • Check the laser printer tonner

Is the printer connected to the computer?

  • Check that a communications cable is plugged into the printer and the computer
  • Sometimes cables can get unplugged by other devices that pull on the cables.

Can a test page be printed from Windows?

  1. From the Windows Start menu type Control Pannel.
  2. Choose "View devices and printers" and then "Printers & scanners"
  3. Look for the icon as shown as Figure 1.
    • Figure 1 - Windows Printers and Faxes
  4. Right-click on the name of the printer connected to the computer from the list and select properties.
  5. The properties display will open as shown in Figure 2.
  6. Select the "Print Test Page" button to send a test page to the printer.
    • If the test page prints then your printer is ready for further configuration in System Five. If not then contact your IT Professional to assist with further troubleshooting.
