Overview
If you are struggling with printing, use this article. It covers several things to check to ensure your printer is operating.
Is the printer turned on?
- Check the power cable connections
- Check power indicators on the printer
- Check the thermal transfer ribbon spool in a label printer
- Check the laser printer tonner
Is the printer connected to the computer?
- Check that a communications cable is plugged into the printer and the computer
- Sometimes cables can get unplugged by other devices that pull on the cables.
Can a test page be printed from Windows?
- From the Windows Start menu type Control Pannel.
- Choose "View devices and printers" and then "Printers & scanners"
- Look for the icon as shown as Figure 1.

- Right-click on the name of the printer connected to the computer from the list and select properties.
- The properties display will open as shown in Figure 2.
- Select the "Print Test Page" button to send a test page to the printer.
- If the test page prints then your printer is ready for further configuration in System Five. If not then contact your IT Professional to assist with further troubleshooting.
